WE BELIEVE IN TEAM
By Jim Delbridge, LRD Head of Copy
There is no shortage of quotes about team work online. Just type ‘teamwork’ into Google and you are presented with a smorgasbord of motivational sayings attributed to everyone from Helen Keller, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan and the ubiquitous Henry Ford.
Team work makes the dream work
In this age of advertising strap lines, 140 character messaging and journalistic sound bites it seems that we need valuable and useful concepts compressed into short, memorable and digestible expressions. How else are we to learn and pass the lesson on?
Like parmesan cheese on a bolognese I will be sprinkling some of these well-known expressions liberally over the top of this article. Let’s start with Alexander Dumas. The Three Musketeers got it right when they joined swords and announced: ‘All for one and one for all’. A cry of unity, an expression that underlined the importance of team members being there for each another no matter what.
None of us are as smart as all of us
Here at LRD, we sponsor the Team Of The Year at the Betway Channel Island Sports Awards. Why? Well, obvious really. As Jose Mourinho said: ‘Players don’t win trophies. Teams win trophies.’
LRD loves the challenge of solving business problems. We’re big thinkers and are motivated by big ideas that bring results. So when it came to developing our services we made sure we had the best possible team in place to deliver on behalf of our clients and grow our business. Great idea but what do we do with the George Bests and Lionel Messis of this world? How do we get them to be the best ‘for the team’ rather than just the best ‘on the team’? How business leaders absorb the talented black sheep into their teams is the difference between silverware and Tupperware.
At LRD we are all individuals with different skills and specialities and that is good. Also we are all grown ups with a youthful outlook: we’re professional, trustworthy, hard-working and tuned into the ‘cutting edge’. We all know that team work is the biggest weapon that any business has in its arsenal. Add intelligence, talent, and creativity, and a Champions League winners medal is a mere formality.
More ‘We’ less ‘Me’
We are strong believers that the most successful business relationships are those where clients allow their agency into the team dressing room. The most successful outcomes occur when we are partners rather than suppliers. Successful teamwork needs openness on all sides. From the moment we understand what a brand or business is all about and how they want the market to see them, we can begin to accelerate opportunities for sales and growth.
Why do we sponsor Team Of The Year? One saying found online says it all - a human truth that everyone should take on board:
‘Successful people build each other up. They motivate inspire and push each other. Unsuccessful people just hate, blame and complain!’
